Pikkuli is familiar to many Finnish families from books, television, mobile games and live performances. What fewer people know is that the original animated series has already been broadcast in more than 40 countries and has gathered around 60 million views worldwide. And in autumn 2026, Pikkuli will appear on the big screen for the first time.
The beloved Finnish children’s character Pikkuli arrives at the Helsinki Children’s Fair. And visitors will get a sneak peek of the upcoming family film Pikkuli and Starlight Reindeer.
The film is an 80-minute winter adventure that brings the beloved characters of Sunny Moor Woods to the big screen for the first time. With a production budget of €3.5 million, the film is one of the largest children’s film productions in Finland. Visually, the film combines hand-painted 2D backgrounds with expressive, irresistibly cute and touchably fluffy 3D animated characters to create a unique hybrid animation style.
The film’s development team also includes internationally experienced creators, such as Michael “Mike” Polcino, known for his work on The Simpsons and Family Guy.
This exciting family adventure travels through a magical winter landscape. At first, the forest community is preparing for Christmas. The snowy idyll is suddenly broken when the adults begin to argue and – oh no! – they cancel Christmas. Pikkuli and friends decide to search for Starlight Reindeer, the magical creature said to bring back the light of Christmas and who, according to legend, lives far in the north. But the snow-covered forest is full of obstacles. And does Starlight Reindeer even exist? Pikkuli’s big brother certainly has his doubts. Will Pikkuli and friends find the answer? And will they make it back home for Christmas?
Like migrating birds, the film will spread its wings internationally. Pikkuli and Starlight Reindeer will first premiere in cinemas across all Nordic countries in autumn 2026 – and the journey continues from there. And more exciting news is coming very soon.
